G. S. L. City, March 28, 1861.

Mr. Peter Shuttler,
Chicago, Illinois,

Sir:--

The bearer, Mr. Henry W. Lawrence, will call upon you to purchase 30 wagons, 25 of them to be on the 5 feet track, and 5 on the narrow track. They are wanted to be of the best material and workmanship, after the pattern of those we bought of you in 1859, with wooden axles 4 or, better, 41/4 inches diameter at the shoulder; if not convenient to furnish that sized axles, let them have iron axles 2 inches at the shoulder, with more play to the axle, that a hot day in hot sand may not cause the axle to stop the wheels, as it frequently does on the plains. Put on what are called "double beds," and false tongues of the best Swedes iron, with a
gooseneck, and make the breaks as Mr. Lawrence will dictate

Should Mr. Lawrence not be in funds at the time of purchase, I wish you to take his notes, payable when we send down next Fall, for the payment of which notes I will be responsible.

Your prompt attention to the foregoing, to the accommodation of Mr. Lawrence, will oblige,

Respectfully

Brigham Young
