President Brigham Young,
Springville,

Dear Brother:-As you will perceive by the despatch to H. S. Eldredge, we supposed we were left without any news to send, and, although feeling that you would like to know whether there was any or not, had concluded not to send; but having just received the enclosed "Extra" which you will see was obtained from other sources direct from St. Joseph's; we thought it excuse enough to send to you although containing nothing of any great importance. As to the proposed compromise if it would not pass before the commencement of hostilities it will hardly do so now. And as to informing
each other what will be satisfactory, nothing short of killing each other will satisfy their all absorbing thirst for blood. The streets have been filled with emigration yesterday and to day, on their way to California in search of their "Golden God", but all passed off quietly, although considerable drinking on Whisky Street. All is well. May God bless you all.

Your bro. in the Gospel

Daniel H Wells
