G. S. L. City, Sep. 24, 1861.

To Major Hunt and the Brethren in Ogden Hole Valley,

Dear Brethren:-

Indian Jack is here, and tells me that he much needs a horse. From what he says I think it would be good policy, and so advise, for you to club together and give him a horse, which he says will make him feel good, and satisfy his claim upon you for settling upon what he claims as his land. Jack says he is a friend to all white men.

Your compliance with <the> foregoing, at your earliest convenience, will oblige,
Your Brother in the Gospel,

Brigham Young

P. S. It is cheaper to feed, clothe, and make presents to the Indians, than to fight them.
