Dear Brother:--

The bearer of this note Bro. Edmund Merchant is desirious of locating a farm for himself and family in your neighborhood. Br. Merchant is a good farmer a good citizen, and a good saint, any assistance that you can render him in procuring for himself a piece of good land will I trust be a mutual benefit and advantage to both your settlement and him.

Bro. Merchant has for several years been farming for me I can therefore safely recommend him to you as every way worthy to receive any encouragement which may be in your power to bestow. He would still remain with me but my farm is too small to let out on shares and I prefer to occupy it myself hereafter. He also wishes to get a farm for himself which you know is rather difficult for a poor man to accomplish in this vicinity hence the reason of his going I would willingly keep him on a farm had I one of sufficient dimensions to justify

Your Brother as ever in the Gospel,

Daniel H Wells
