Dear Brother:

The Hon. W. H. Hooper and yourself have been elected Senators to the Congress of the United States by the General Assembly of the States of Deseret, to present our Constitution and Memorial for admission; and since the duties thus devolved upon you are expected to require your absence from Liverpool for only a short period, I wish you, as already advised on the 15th inst., to retain the full charge and jurisdiction of the Office and your Presidency, without my public notice of your temporary absence. I have requested br. Chauncey W. West to take charge of the Office while you are away, and have given him a letter to you in which he is instructed to govern his operations as you may from time to time direct.

Should we be admitted during the present Session of Congress and, as a consequence, yourself and br Hooper be given your seats in the Senate, we can then farther arrange in your case as circumstanc<e>s may require and the Spirit dictate.

Since writing the foregoing your favor of March 15th has come to hand, [?] inclosure to br. B. F. Johnson, which I will forward, and presume it will prove acceptable.

Br's Hooper and West were to have started by stage on the 22nd inst., but some interruption, alleged by Indians, between Green River and Devil's Gate has stopped the stage and they will leave in the morning with an escort under charge of Col. R. T. Burton, who will accompany them as far as may be necessary.
