Sir:

In reply to yours of May 5th, I have to inform you that upon inquiry I learned that a John M. Clements had been in this City, and was now probably in some one of the southern settlements in this Territory. Not being able to learn which one, I caused a notice to be published in the Deseret News, a newspaper published in this City, giving your name and address, and requesting your brother, if in this Territory, to write to you.

Trusting that your brother will see the notice and write to you at an early day, giving you all desirable information, I subscribe myself
