Mr. F. A. Kilton
Lock Box 29, Providence, R. I.

Sir:

Your favor of April 19, owing to a temporary stoppage in our mails to and from the east, did not come to hand until a few days since, and agreeable to your request I herewith furnish you "a brief account of the doctrines on which is founded the Mormon religion", to wit:-- Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, repentance of sin, the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, and then a blameless walk in obedience to the commandments of Israel's God, believing in prophets, apostles, gifts, helps, governments, revelations, &c., &c., as taught in the New Testament, and which are nw vouchsafed to all true believers, as they were anciently, and as they ever were and ever will be when the priesthood and Church of Jesus Christ are upon the earth. Such is the law and path leading to the celestial kingdom of God; but there are other kingdoms of glory, as taught by the Apostle Paul, adapted to the condition of those who more or less come short of living up to the requirements of the celestial law.

Trusting that my reply to your request has been brief enough not to weary you, I am,

Respectfully,

Brigham Young
