Hon. H. W. Carpentier,

Pres. Cal. State Tel. Co.,
San Francisco, California,

Dear Sir:

In compliance with the authority and request communicated in your note of the 3d. inst., I shall take pleasure in promoting the efficiency and consequent prosperity of the Company, so far as my judgement and circumstances will from time to time permit.

That I may be able to do so the more understandingly, I shall be happy at any time to receive such instructions and suggestions upon the subject as either yourself or the Board of Directors may be pleased to communicate.

I wish to increase the number of efficient operators here, for doing which we need two complete paper telegraph machines, two local batteries, and a dozen coils of register paper, in short, everything requisite for telegraphing between my office and the Historian's office, which are some twelve rods apart. Would it be too much trouble for you to cause the aforesaid articles to be procured and forwarded to me at the earliest practicable date? Payment therefor will promptly attend the presentation of the bill.

Your Friend,

Brigham Young
