Captain Charles Dalton
Ruby Valley

Dear Bro,

Since your departure, circumstances have transpired, causing me to wish yourself and company to go on to Carson, after unloading the flour at Ruby, and bring freight from Carson to this city. Bishop William Smith is willing to have you do so, and will write you accordingly.

It will doubtless be best for you to quarter over from Ruby onto Humboldt River, as Bro. Howard Egan says the grass and water are much the best on that route, though the distance is somewhat longer. Bro. Egan will inform you where to turn off from the Mail route, and how to proceed on the cross route. He will also advise you as to how many are necessary to go in a company, to enable you to go in safety, a point upon which I wish you to be very careful; and also constantly on the alert, against surprise, injury or loss from any source.

Your company and Bro. Joseph Sharpe's will probably be strong enough to travel safely.

Mr. Street, the bearer of this letter, will arrange for receipting the floor and for furnishing your loading at Carson.

Your Brother in the Gospel
