David McFarland, Esqr.
Worcester, Massachusetts.

Dear Sir

I am happy to say that I had a very pleasant trip accross the plains to my mountain home, and was followed by the freight train of waggons conveying the machinery and merchandize which I purchased for myself and others while I was East last summer, which all arrived in good season, and in apparent good
order.

I write more perticularly at present to call your attention to the machines which I was trying to purchase when at your place, Viz:-- one machine for making cards from hand card size to twenty four inches, one machine for making cards from 24 inches to 48 inches, one machine for filleting; each machine to be so arranged as to work all the different sizes or No. of wire necessary, and any and every extra necessary to keep the machines in successful operation, in our remote position, all to be well oiled and securely boxed for a long and rough journey. We would rather pay the expences of having an inside box of tin or zinc, than to run any risk of their being injured. I also want about 2000 lbs of wire, say 800 lb of No 32, 400 lb No 26, and 100 lb No 28, all of the best quality for card clothing, all well cased in tin or zinc cases inside of the wooden boxes, and marked, "H. S. Eldredge," Care of Mr. M. Pyper, Florence, Nebraska Territory." You will please answer me immediately whether you  can accomplish this, and have them all ready to ship by the first day of May next. I will instruct Hon. W. H. Hooper our senator elect at Washington to settle with you for the above when ready to ship, or place the money to your credit with Messrs Riggs & Co., 56 Wall Street, New York. What is the prospect that some one acquainted with putting up and running the machines would like, in his travels west, to come as far as here and undertake the business? We would be much pleased to have some one do so. Please inform me as to such prospect.

Should you require any farther refference I would take pleasure in refering you to Mr Chas Vandervort of the firm of Thos Hill & Co., 15 Gold Street, New
