Mr. Joseph E. Hobart,
New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dear Sir:

Your letter of Feb. 11, came safely to hand, and in reply I have to inform you that the available means [gap in typescript] P. E. Fund were some time ago more than [gap in typescript] have not since been replenished, which [gap in typescript] from rendering assistance beyond Florence, Nebraska Territory.

Florence is some 4 or 5 miles above Ohama on the right or west bank of the Missouri river, and nearly opposite Council Bluffs City. The two past seasons we have sent ox trains to Florence to bring freight and the poor across the plains. This we can do without much money; and we expect to send teams to Florence this season-- to start from here about the 25th of April, and will probably arrive at Florence about the middle of July.

Should you be able to reach Florence by the middle of July; in readiness to cross the plains, I presume the teams expected to be sent down, will be able to bring you with the rest, which is all the assistance our present circumstances will warrant us in extending this season.

For further information I refer you to Mr. Feramorz Little, Florence, N. T., and Mr. Horace S. Eldredge, P. O. Box 3957, New York City, who are superintending the operations of our this season's immigration.
