Hon. Frank Fuller
Secretary for Utah,

Dear Friend:-

For your gratification I forward you the following addresses on letters lately received at the post office in this City:

"Barent P. Doty, Esqr Appointed Governor of the Territory of Utah."

"Hon. S. S. Harding U. S. Consul, Valparaiso".

I understand the Harding finds, in the package addressed as above, his commission and instructions for said office of consul. The given name in the first instance is doubtless a mistake, and should probably read James Duane. Should Mr Doty decline the appointment, as some think he will, we shall be obliged to do without a Governor until your return.

Affairs here are peaceful with a goodly prospect of their so continuing for a time longer, and promise of abundant crops of fruit and other products.

My health and that of your friends is good.

Your Friend
Brigham Young

P. S.
Ben. Holladay, and Messrs Barney, Fargo and Cheney arrived  yesterday in good health and spirits, from the East, on their way to California. They purpose stopping here a few days.
