Your favor of the 26th ult. and the copy of your communication to the Hon. J. P. Usher have been perused with gratification, and both yourself and your associates in the business may rest assured that the arrangements made with you by the Hon. John M. Bernhisel on my behalf, and who was at the time my legally appointed agent, was understood and sanctioned by me previous to its being completed, and will be strictly complied with on my part; and your proportion, which you state correctly, as per agreement, and as you wish, will be paid to you in Washington City as it is received from the Department, in whole or in part as it may be paid to me, provided the same shall have been paid through the efforts of yourself and your associates as per agreement on your part.
