His Excellency Governor James Duane Doty,
Washington City. D. C.

Dear Sir:-

Your kind favor of the 9th ult., with the cotton seeds mentioned therein, came safely to hand, for which please accept my thanks.

I would be pleased, if not troubling you to much, to have you present my thanks to the Hon. Isaac Newton, Commissioner of the Agricultural Bureau, for his courtesy, and inform him that, did my varied duties permit, I would most cheerfully comply with his wish for a communication upon the agriculture, &c. of Utah; failing which I take pleasure furnish him the desired information.

Should Mr. Kinney be unable to answer all questions, a note from the commissioner to the Hon Wilford Woodruff, President of the Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing Society, Great Salt Lake City, will meet a full and prompt response.

Very Respectfully,

Brigham Young
