President's Office, Great Salt Lake City,

Utah Territory, Nov 9th, 1864. Elders Hammond & Nebeker

Dear Brethren:

We have telegraphed this day to Elder Joseph F. Smith who is at San Francisco, with Elders Wm. W. Cluff and John R. Young, that they are to wait there until you arrive. If any or all of them wish to return with you to the Islands, they are at liberty to do so. As Brother Joseph F. Smith has his wife with and it might be for the benefit of her health to go to the Islands, he can go there, and if he chooses to do so, it will be pleasing to us.

We send through by you $100 00/100 in gold and a Cheque for 316 77/100 in Specie on H. W. Carpentier. Esqr., President of the California State Telegraph Co. being the Equivalent of $784.25 in Greenbacks, which, with the Gold, has been collected here to aid the brethren and Company on their return home. This you will please hand to them.

I remain Your Bro in Gospel
