Bishop Peter Maughan,

Dear Brother,

Wheat when paid on P. E. indebtedness, will be received at the rate of $2 per bushel, and Greenbacks will be received at gold rates.

There will be no teams sent down this next year by the Church to help the poor across the Plains from the Missouri River; consequently, those who wish to send to Europe for their friends must make their calculations to pay their way from their places of residence to this City; and I cannot receive any thing but gold in payment of such persons passages as shipowners and others will take nothing but gold for carrying the people.

With love, I remain Your Brother in the Lord,

Brigham Young
