Bishop Phillip Klingen Smith,
Parowan, Iron Co.

Dear Brother,

Your favor of the 17th ult., containing a description of your and the brethren's exploration of the Pawan Valley and the adjacent country, has been received and was perused with much interest by me. I am pleased to hear of your success in discovering coal and iron of so apparently good a quality and the other resources for settlement which you describe. You inform me of your having organized, and that you await my approval or disapproval of your organization. So far as I know, there is no reason why I should not approve of what you have done. You have my good wishes and faith and prayers for your success, as have all the Saints who are striving to build up and to develope the resources and strength of Zion.

With love I remain Your Brother and Friend

Brigham Young
