Jan 30th. 1866.

Elder Benn. F. Johnson
Spring Lake Villa.

Dear Brother,

Your letter of the 10th instant explaining your circumstances has been received and perused. You are at liberty to stay where you are for the present season at your <own> risk, if in your judgement it is safe. I cannot warrant you in so doing; but by taking such precautions as you have proposed, there would be no particular danger <perhaps> from Indians. In calling men to go south it is not our wish to oppress any of them. We expected they would fit up as soon as they could make it convenient to fill the Mission.

Your Brother

Brigham Young
