Dear Brother:-

I received a letter, dated Jan. 26, from two brethren by the name of Joseph D. Spencer and David Milne, who with their families and some other Saints have arrived at your City from Australia and New Zealand, on their way to this place. They write to me for information as to the best course to proceed in order to arrive at the place of their destination. I have written to them this morning referring them to you for counsel and whatever assistance you can render them in suggesting the best the best steps for them to take under their circumstances. It is too early yet for them to cross the Sierra Nevada and it will be better for them to obtain employment and save what money they have until the season opens and opportunity presents itself for them to come across. I do not know how business is with you, but probably brother J. M. Horner or yourself may be able to point out to them the best method to proceed to get employment.

We have had a severe winter and considerable snow; but it is now disappearing and we have pleasant weather over head, and there is a prospect of pleasanter weather from this time on. All is peace with the Saints, and we are enjoying ourselves, despite the hatred and presistent animosity of our enemies. It is mortifying to those whom we have in our midst that they cannot disturb us nor arouse us sufficiently to take notice of them or get angry with them. This is the best policy that we can take towards them; leaving them severely along has, so far, been attended with good results.
