February 14th, 1866.

Messrs Hooper and Eldredge,

Gentlemen:-

On examination I find that Joseph W. Young, our emigrating Agent, owed Kountz Bros., Omaha, a balance of $1575.00. You owed that amount to J. W. Young and gave him a check on Holladay and Halsey, which he exchanged for draft, no. 403, upon Ben Holladay, New York, in his favor, and which he endorsed and mailed to Kountz Bros., January 10th, 1865. On the 18th of January, J. W. Young received a communication from Kountz Bros. desiring the amount to be paid to Drexel, Winthrop Co.,, New York, to meet a payment then due. On the representation of Joseph W. Young, I sent the following telegram, January. 18th, 1865. "Ben Holladay Esq. Hooper and Eldredge have drawn upon you favor of Kountz Bros., Omaha, for fifteen hundred and seventy five ($1575) dollars. Draft mailed tenth instant. Can you pay in advance of receipt of draft to Drexel, Winthrop & Co. for Kountz Bros., Brigham Young".

I think that Ben Holladay in charging you the amount, instead of Holladay and Halsey, must have done so in consequence of the wording of the Telegram-- "Hooper and Eldredge have drawn upon you, &c." I presume that if the sum has been paid on the request of my telegram and on the presentation of the draft that it can easily be adjusted by Mr. Hooper.

I shall write Kountz Brothers for <further> information on the subject.

Yours Respectfully
Brigham Young
