James Davidson,

Deseret Mills.

Dear Brother:-

Your letter of Saturday's date on the subject of <the> emigration of the balance of your family has been received. I regret that I am unable to comply with your request in sending for them. I could pay you what is coming to you in other means than money; but money is difficult to be procured, and nothing but money will answer for the emigration of the people. ship owners, provision merchants, and Rail Road Companies will take nothing but money; and the calls upon me are already so numerous that I find myself compelled to decline promising aid of this kind, unless I have the money paid me to do it with. You may have ever so much on the books, but that is not gold in Liverpool.

With love, I remain

Your Brother,
Brigham Young
