Dear Brother:-

Enclosed please find a copy of a letter written to me from Margaret Smith, wife of John G. Smith, formerly Bishop at Smithfield, Cache Co. From what I have known and can learn respecting him, he is not a man whom I should judge to be guilty of such an action as she mentions in her letter; but this you can ascertain. If it be untrue it should be checked, as such reports are calculated to work out great injury.

Affairs are moving along quietly in the City. The City fathers are having an interesting time in trying to shut up gambling and drinking saloons. The Billiard Saloon was closed last week by the Marshal, but Titus and McCurdy sitting in chambers on Saturday granted an injunction, and the saloon has been turned back into the hands of the club who claim to own it. The Mayor and City Council will not cease their efforts to check these evils, and they have the faith and prayers of the faithful that they may be
successful.
