Dear Brother:

Your letter of the 5th instant, on the subject of paying cows for the emigration of your folks from Scotland, has been received.

I am so situated that nothing but money will answer for the emigration of the people from Europe. Ship owners, provision merchants, rail road companies all ask money for carrying and furnishing the people; nothing else will suit them. I have many applications from the brethren requesting me to emigrate their friends, and they will pay grain, stock or something else of that kind; but I have to decline doing so, as I am compelled to strain every nerve to raise the money needed to bring them along after they are landed, and it is much easier for them to turn their articles into money than for me to do it for them all.

With love,

Your Bro.
