B. F. Pendleton,
St. George;

Dear Brother:

In the settlement of my account with the Indian Department they have disallowed the sum of $189.75 for blacksmith tools <said to be> retained by you, as per bill herewith enclosed. Did you retain those tools or did you hand them over to J. F. Forney or to Benj. Davis, Superintendent of Indian Affairs? If you delivered them to any of the Government Agents, send me the receipt take for them. If you retained them I shall charge you with the amount. They have also deducted from my account $700.00 paid to Gilbert & Gerrish, being your salary for 1856. I herewith enclose a voucher for the amount, for your signature, to be sent to the Department. This amount I shall also charge <to> your account.

Please let me have an answer by return of mail
