Sir:

Your letter of 17th ult. (No. 162), asking information respecting Mrs. Thea Gad and Miss Mary Hastrup, has been received.

I have made inquiry respecting these persons, and find that Mrs. Gad is living in Provo, Utah Co., U. T., and Miss Hastrup is living in this City. I understand they have been expecting letters such as you describe. On the Letter List (advertised June 6th) there was a letter advertised for Mary Hadfield -- this may have been a mistake of the Post Masters Clerk and the name been really Hastrup. In the same List there was a letter advertised, among the letters for gentlemen, for The Gad. Those letters have been sent to the Dead Letter Office, Washington.

Having been advised of your inquiry, they will doubtless watch more closely in the future.

Very Respectfully

Brigham Young
