Dear Sir:

It would be difficult for me, in the limits of a letter, to give you anything like a full idea of the nature of our faith and discipline. We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ -- this is the first principle of the gospel. Faith is the moving principle; then it is necessary that men should repent of their sins, and be baptized in water, by one having authority, for the remission of sins. When this ordinance is compiled with, the laying on of hands for the reception of the Holy Ghost is then attended to. This Spirit will then lead the possessor into all Truth, if he will live before the Lord in such a manner as to retain it. Accompanying this I send you a copy of the "Deseret News," which contains an Epitome of our faith. By applying to Elder Wm. H. Miles, 117 John St., New York City, (Post Office Address 3957) he will give you any information you may need; if you could visit New York; or if you could not, he might visit you, and you would obtain knowledge upon the points, to which you allude in your letter.

May the Lord bless you in your search for Truth

Yours &c.
Brigham Young
