Dear Sir:

Your favor of the 15th inst has just been received, and I hasten to reply. I heard of your being in town and also from Di Conger the reason of your not calling. Whenever you pass through this City again, I shall be pleased to have a visit from you.

Utah is attracting considerable attention at the present time. The progress of the Pacific Railroad across the continent gives a prominence to our position which it has not heretofore enjoyed. Whether the mineral resources of the country be as capable of development as many suppose, or not, there is still enough here to make the country attention. Their labors and success can not be ignored. We are a palpable, living fact, and though prejudice and misrepresentation may at the present time prevail, we look forward to the day when a more general recognition of the virtues which have characterized us and made us a happy, prosperous and contented people and changed desert land into fruitful fields and gardens will be awarded us.

Should you not return before you go to the Exhibition I hope you will have a pleasant voyage.

Respectfully Yours,

Brigham Young
