Dear Sir

Your favor of the 11th, ult., making inquiry respecting settling in this Territory has been received.

We have a number of men now here who do not belong to our Church; but some of whom expect to be permanent citizens. We would like those who come here, if we had our way in the matter, to be order-loving, peaceable citizens. Those who belong to our own society, we endeavor to have of this class, and should any of them conduct themselves improperly, they are cited before the Church, and, unless they repent, fellowship is withdrawn from them. Those who join our Church have the entire disposal of their worldly goods, though all our members pay one-tenth of their incomes into the Church for the erection of public buildings, support of the poor, &c. Letters of introduction are sometimes an advantage to persons coming here, especially if strangers; members of our Church bring letters of recommendation from the branches of the Church with which they have been connected, and they are received into fellowship here.

Enclosed I forward you an epitome of our faith.

Respectfully

Brigham Young
