Dear Sir:

Your letter of February 27th, in relation to the deposits of grasshopper eggs in your State, and requesting my opinion as to the extent of their ravages this Summer, has been received. It is true that we, some few years since, suffered considerably from a similar cause, and if I could give you any information that would exterminate them or prevent their ravages I should be most happy to do so. Our only remedy was the exercise of faith in the Lord, praying Him to control the visitation for our good and the accomplishment of His purposes. That is the course I recommend to you.

Your grain and vegetable crops may suffer the coming Season; but the whole matter is in the hands of the Lord and the result will be according to His will and pleasure.

Respectfully
Brigham Young
