Elder Frederick Foremaster,
St. George.

Dear Brother:

Your second wife, Mary, has been to see me and made a statement of her circumstances to me.
She has been working and trying to sustain herself since she came up here, and by hard labor has done
so; but she finds her strength failing, and she cannot continue to do as she has done. She needs help,
and you should render it to her, and make her as comfortable as you can. When a man takes a woman
to wife, he should make his calculations to take care of her, and not leave her to depend upon her own
exertions, or to the charity of the public for sustenance. If he does so, and suffers her to be neglected,
he forfeits his priesthood.
Your Brother
Brigham Young
