Gentlemen:

Your favor of April 5th, informing me that you had forwarded me a History of the great Civil War from a States Rights Stand Point, has been received. I should have acknowledged its receipt long since, but I have been waiting for the book, which has not yet arrived. Our mails have met with very serious delays during the present Summer through Indian depredations and high waters. After waiting so long, I think it but right to acknowledge your kindness, and to express my thanks to you for your courtesy.
