Sir:

Your letter of the 2nd instant, on the subject of manufacturing iron in this Territory, has been received, and would have been answered earlier but I have been absent from the City.

All that you say respecting the importance of this manufacture to the people of this Territory I can heartily endorse; but I have no wish to enter into the business, having as much on my hands already as I can well attend to.
