Dear Bro:

Brother Ezra Chase called upon me recently and requested me to correspond with you respecting some notes which he holds in his hands; these notes you were to settle. The first is a note for Six hundred dollars ($600.00) dated March 1st, 1857, payable one day after date, and drawing interest at one per cent per month, and signed by Lyman, Rich and Hanks.

The second is a receipt for Two hundred and Fifty Dollars ($250.00) dated Sept. 18, 1857 and signed by Geo. Q. Cannon, on behalf of Lyman, Rich & Hanks, to be applied on the San Bernardino Ranch a/c. The receipt states: "which amount will be accounted for by Ebenezer Hanks at San
Bernardino."

The third receipt is for Seven Hundred Dollars ($700,00) dated Oct. 1st, 1857, signed also by Geo. Q. Cannon, on behalf of Lyman, Rich & Hanks, to be paid to Pioche, Bayerque & Co. on the Ranch a/c. and for which the receipt states Mr. Ebenezer Hanks will settle at San Bernardino.

There is also a promissory note drawn by Lyman, Rich & Hanks, Sept. 5, 1857, in favor of O. H. Carter, and made payable 20th November, 1857, at interest of two & one-half per cent per month. On this note is endorsed a payment of Eighty-eight dollars and thirty-seven cents ($88.37), and a
second payment of Forty-five Dollars and sixty-two cents ($45.62),

Brother Chase is growing old and is desirous to have these matters fixed up. He also needs means to make himself more comfortable.
