Dear bro:

This morning Bro. Anthony Ivins presented some of your receipts for Cotton delivered at the President's Factory, Washington, in payment of a debt he owes the President here. I do not feel authorized to apply these receipts on the account here without your written order: The receipts are as follows:

Apl  18. 1867   455 lbs Cotton
  "    23     "       365  "      "
May 30     "       600  "      "
Apl    9  1868.   100  "      "
        Total         1520  "     "

Have you placed the same to his credit on your books anywhere -- or otherwise paid anything on the same. If not I will on receipt of your reply take up the receipts & charge the Mill-- the last rec't being chargeable in time of bro Birches contract: Please reply fully by letter
