To Bishop C. Layton and all concerned,

Brethren:

There are several from this City and perhaps from elsewhere who wish to take up land and make farms in your neighborhood, say in the vicinity of what are called Stoddard's Springs, or between your place and the Hooper herd ground, a course commendable on their part, and in which I trust they will be aided by your advice and counsel, that the land may be occupied to the best advantage, the rights of no one be infringed upon, and all matters in relation thereto be conducted amicably and for the best interests of all concerned.

Your Brother in the Gospel.
