Mrs. Martha Sykes,
Hampton. Ills.

Dear Madam.

I am in receipt of your daughters letter of the 25 ult. in which she states the books of your late husband shew a balance of fourteen dollars due to him by me.

This is most certainly a mistake. I paid your husband every cent I owed him at the time he worked for me at Nauvoo, and he must have omitted to give me my proper credits on his book, to cause that amount to stand there against my name.

Enclosed you will find post office orders amounting to fifty (50) dollars which please accept as a token of my respect and good feelings to Bro. Sykes and yourself

Yours respectfully.
Brigham Young
