Dear Brother:

In reply to your letter regarding Mr Harlen, my counsel is for you to let him alone and not buy him out, as if you now buy him out it is most probable he will again return with a fresh stock of goods. Let him sell his goods, if he can, to travelers and transients, but if any of the saints persist in dealing with him, after they have been counselled not to do so, let them be disfellowshiped according to the vote of the conference. When he offers his goods a little cheaper than they can be laid down here at cost and freight, we may believe he intends to leave for good. If I can see a list of his prices at that time, I will give you counsel what to do.

Your brother in the Gospel
