Dear Brethren:

I am informed that the farmers in the settlements having surplus grain, are refusing to sell to the brethren needing it, expecting to get higher prices for it, than at present rule the market.

This course is a very unwise one, for as soon as the railroad gets nearer, there must be a decided fall in the price of grain and flour. I have no idea the present prices can be much longer sustained. I therefore deem it wise for the brethren to sell the grain and flour they do not need for their families, to those working on the railroad, and to such as need it, before the prices fall.

Your Brother in the Gospel,
Brigham Young
