Your favor of the 10th inst. and circular is to hand, and shall have my careful consideration.

The depth of our wells in the city vary from one foot in the bottoms to sixty feet on the bench, averaging perhaps about 30 feet.

The valleys north and south of the city, for a distance of above four hundred miles are thickly settled wherever the waters of the streams and rivers can be carried on to the land to render it fit for cultivation.
