Dr. T.C. Durant,
Vice-Prest. U.P.R.R.

Dear Sir:-The bearer of this Mr. H.J. Faust has worked a sub-contract on the U.P.R.R. of quite a large extent & has executed the same (to the best of my knowledge) quite satisfactorily; and now, being desirous of visiting friends in the east, solicits a draught on your kindness for a 'pass' over said railroad in consideration of good conduct & faithfulness on his contract.

I am well acquainted with the gentleman, and can vouch for his worthiness and veracity.

Yours very respectfully,
