Dear Sir:--

I have written to James F. Smith to ask your permission for leave of absence for one or two weeks in order to assist us on the proposed "Utah Central Railroad," as we are short of assistance.

If, without infringing too much upon your business you can grant this request, it will be conferring a great favor.

I would like to know from you as soon as convenient whether you can spare him.
