Mr. James H. Martineau,
Logan.

Dear Bro:-

Yours of the 22nd inst. applying for a situation as assistant engineer on the Utah Central Railroad has been received. The Board of Directors for that road appointed Jesse W. Fox, chief engineer to organize a Company to locate the road, and therefore the matter is in his hands, what he has done in the premises I am not advised. Bro. Fox is now out surveying on the line of the Pacific Railroad & I believe wants your assistance there. This survey must be completed before the other is commenced; the object is to secure the settler's lands which will be surveyed some 20 miles on both sides of the railroad.

Since writing the above Bro. Fox has come in. You will probably be called upon to assist in hunting out the stakes of the U.S. Survey in Cache Valley.
