Dear bro:-

You informed me by letter of that the Draft for £3797.9.4 which was sent to you by Jno. J. Cisco & Son, was drawn at 6 months sight & I accordingly wrote to them immediately, & this morning received reply that the Draft was at 60 days, as the 3rd which is enclosed herewith of same tenor and date proves: hence you can get the money by the 1st of May or before.

From what I understand I think you could take the notes of the Assisted emigrants at Liverpool for a sufficient Amount to cover the whole sum that will be needed to aid them through to the valley, & if it should prove to be a little less the difference will be endorsed on their notes. This would greatly relieve our Agent at New York. Such emigrants should never be furnished a draft for dollars & cents in any shape, but should have a certificate that the bearers (giving names & ages) are persons who the P.E.F. Co are assisting to emigrate to Utah. which our Agent could understand, but they would not be woth anything to any one else. Now last year such persons had in some cases precisely the same kind of Draft on H.B. Clawson, N.Y. as those had, who paid their R.R. fares to the L'pool office, & there was great trouble to tell how to keep the Accounts properly in consequence.

I have had my son Brigham sign my name to a sufficient number of my Drafts on you to last whilst I am away on a trip to our most southern settlements, on which I shall start in a day or two, and I have him sign my name, below my own signature to this letter, for a pattern for you to know those drafts by, that are signed by him. They will commence at No 1691. First of Exchange.
