Mr. Albert Wagner,
New London, Connecticut.

Dear Sir:-

Yours to President Brigham Young of the 6th inst. has been received. In reply to which, in the President's absence from home, I will say that in my judgment there are not many inducements, aside from religious motives, for persons not of our faith to settle in Utah.

In your case ordinary difficulties would be augmented, for the popular language here is the English, -the French being very little spoken.

I think therefore that so far as making money is concerned, you might do better elsewhere. However, if you wish to enquire into the principles of our religion -- by applying to Mr. W.H. Miles, 117. John Street, New York City, or any of our Elders travelling in your neighbourhood, they will be pleased to give you every information.

Yours with respect
Geo A Smith
