Mr. John M. Stout,

Dear Sir:-

Yours of the 8th. inst. to Prest. B. Young has been received, which as he is absent from home. I have been instructed to answer.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ taught by the Latter-day Saints is indentical with that recorded in the Old & New Testaments. The first principles of which are Faith. Repentance. Baptism for the Remission of Saints, & the Laying on of hands for the Gift of the Holy Ghost. The Candidate, then, through faith & diligence becomes further enlightened in the Gospel as this Holy Spirit may instruct him. & that general unity of action so characteristic of the Latter-day Saints in all their public movements.

As it is impossible in a brief letter to enter far into this subject, I respectfully refer you to one of our Elders. Mr. W.H. Miles. 117 John St. New York City,    who will cheerfully furnish you such information on this subject as you may require.
