Dear Sir:-

Yours of March 26. has been received, which, in behalf of Prest. Brigham Young who is absent from home I have been instructed to answer.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is identical with that recorded in the Old & New Testaments: -- The first principles of which are Faith: Repentance: Baptism for the Re-mission of sins; and the Laying on of hands for the Gift of the Holy Ghost. The Candidate, then, through faith & diligence becomes further enlightened in the Gospel, as the Holy Spirit may teach him & hence the gathering. & that unity of action so characteristic of the Latter-day-Saints in all their public movements.

As it is impossible in a brief letter to enter far upon this subject I will respectfully refer you to one of our Elders. Mr. W.H. Miles 117 John St New York City, who will communicate such particulars as you may desire to know -- & may be able to refer you to some Elder in your vicinity.

Yours with Respect
Geo. A. Smith
