Mr. John R. Kelso.
Springfield: Mo.

Dear Sir:-

Yours of April 4. to Prest. B. Young has been received at this Office. The Prest. has gone from home for a few weeks & in his absence I will so far answer your letter as to say that the salaries of School Teachers in this Territory are by no means large; that of the Principal of the Normal School of Salt Lake City being $1600.00 pr anum, being the highest amount paid. The Gentleman is eminently a First Class Teacher.

However your letter will be submitted to the President on his return, & if he should have anything further to communicate, you will doubtless hear from him.

Yours with Respect.
Geo. A. Smith
