Hon. Oliver Ames,
President of the Union Pacific Railroad Co.
Boston.

Dear Sir:-

I completed my grading contract on the U. P. R. R. in February last under many difficulties arising chiefly from the delay occasioned by the Engineers not having the road laid off in time for my hands to go on with grading, which was thereby driven into winter, and the backwardness of the payments from time to time; and I have not yet been able to obtain the final estimates of my work in Weber, and beyond Bear River, altho the cars have been running over my work for several months. There is yet a large balance, amounting to some three fourths of a Million dollars, due to me, and it becomes necessary for sundry reasons, that payment thereof be made without longer delay. Will you have the goodness to order the payment immediately.

Regretting the necessity of having to call your attention to this matter.

I remain Respectfully
Brigham Young
