Mrs. Sally Sleeper,
Holland, Erie Co. N. Y.

Dear Sister:-

Your letter of the 5th has been received. Prest. Young has gone on a tour through the Nth Eastern part of the Territory leaving me to attend to his correspondence. I caused immediate inquiry to be made at Heman Hyde's relative to your sister, & was informed by one of his wives that your sister left him some 10 years since, and removed out of the country and is now living with her son in law Leonard Wines in Austin, Nevada.

Bro Hide died a short time since, full in the hope of a glorious resurrection. Sister Hide promises to write you all the particulars.

The great work of the Lord is still rolling on. The Pacific Railroad which in the minds of many was to prove our overthrow is likely to be of great advantage to us -- in the emigration of the Saints -- the importation of machinery and material to develop our resources & the introduction into our midst of a superior class of strangers whose reports will go far to counteract lying scribblers who have heretofore pandered to the prejudices of Priestcraft. By this means we judge that much good will be accomplished.

The chief teachings indicate the neccessity of the Saints becoming united in temporal as they already are in Spiritual things & when this is accomplished we may expect a union whereby may be brought to pass the purposes of God in the redemption & salvation of the world from the thraldom of sin and Satan.

We pray continually for all the Saints that they may be faithful to their God in striving to keep his commandments.

I have instructed my Secretary to send you a Book of Doctrine & Covenants & also any papers likely to prove interesting.

May God bless & preserve you and all the faithful

Geo. A. Smith
