Mr. George Hodge,

Dear Bro:--

Prest. Young instructed me to write to you that he received your letter and had inquired of Elder Robt C. Campbell who said he had written to you giving you the necessary counsel in the premises. As to advancing any money for your fare, he could not do it, our funds are long since exhausted with no probability of receiving any more this season. Our work on the Railroad has been completed some time, but, as the Co. has failed to pay up money is extremely scarce. You must be patient & if you continue faithful be assured the way will open up for you sooner or later.

Our General Emigration Agent is Wm. C. Staines. P. O. Box 3918. An agent has been appointed for Omaha.

The fare is reduced so low, that it appears to me, if you can get any work at all, surely you can earn sufficient to pay passage for yourself & son by the time the P. E. Fund Emigration arrives. though at the same time it is a question how far it might be prudent to leave the rest of your family behind if not safely provided for. I would advise you to counsel with the Elders on this point when they arrive.

May God bless & preserve you from every evil

Your brother in the Gospel
D. McKenzie Secy.
